Procoin (July 2025)
Procoin is a project originally built and launched on Farcaster in less than two days. The project was initially posed an experiment in social token distribution, a common theme for the studio. As an open, programmable social network where every user has a native crypto wallet, Farcaster is fertile ground for this type of experiment.
Post token launch, the project has evolved. We built a Farcaster mini-app focused on content curation, with six figures in trading volume, thousands of users and about 60 dedicated curators.
The Token Drop
In what became the highest engagement post in the short history of Farcaster, we launched a social token distribution (a socially-oriented airdrop) directly in the feed.
A few days earlier, the Farcaster team had introduced Farcaster Pro, a premium subscription service for the app, and issued an NFT to the first 10k users to subscribe. On an open social network where there is often difficulty discerning real users from fake ones, some people on Farcaster noted that a paid identity set like this one could serve as a strong foundation for airdrops, which are notoriously vulnerable to manipulation.
Around the same time, there had been discourse on the network around the lack of a formal governance voice for users of the protocol. Some users had been critical of decisions made by the core team around the algorithmic home feed and content curation overall.
We melded these narratives into an onchain in-feed experiment, distributing $PRO to all qualified users who asserted their interest in the new experiment by "ratifying" the new governance mechanism on the feed. We dominated the Farcaster timeline for several days, with 9500 of the eligible 10k NFT holders participating. We generated profound discourse on the network around questions of identity, governance and value accrual.
But ultimately, after conversations with Farcaster users, we realized that the governance model we proposed in the launch thread would not be viable. We had no true economic and governance influence over the network yet. So we set out to build a protocol and miniapp on top of Farcaster that echoed some of the same themes while generating real value for users.
Feeds + Procoin Curation Protocol
We set out to build the Procoin Curation Protocol - a set of smart contracts that empowers tastemakers on Farcaster to curate thematic content and earn on their curation abilities. Directly within the Farcaster feed, users see content they want to curate and register that curation directly by simply tagging our curation agent.
Users can follow their favorite curators, browse those curators' feeds and enjoy a curated composite timeline.
Probots
As part of the Procoin project, we also launched a NFT collection called Probots in collaboration with Farcaster-native artist @tinyrainboot. In addition to being cute, Probots explores digital identity and romanticism in the post-internet age.
